Vegan Cashew Cheese Sauce with Nutritional Yeast

This week’s episode is all about yeast. We cover three different kinds: nutritional yeast, baker’s yeast, and brewer’s yeast.

Nutritional yeast: an inactive yeast that is either fortified or unfortified. When fortified, B Vitamins like Vitamin B12 have been added. It is great on popcorn or used to make vegan cheese.

Baker’s yeast: an active yeast used as a leavening agent for breads. There are several types: fresh yeast, active dry yeast, instant yeast, and rapid rise yeast.

Brewer’s yeast: a by-product of brewing beer. It is high in chromium. It is often used to help breastfeeding women produce more milk.
