Sweet Potato and Chickpea Buddha Bowls

This week’s episode dives into the Buddhist way of eating and fasting, including intermittent fasting.

Buddhist Diet:

  • Typically vegetarian (lacto-ovo) because of the principle of doing no harm to another being.

  • Some don’t consume alcohol and caffeine because they can be mind altering and steer you away from your Buddhist practice

  • Some don’t consume strong smelling plants such as garlic and onion

  • Fasting is often incorporated

Intermittent Fasting:

  • Typically fast for 16 hours a day. So if you stop eating at 7pm, you wouldn’t eat again until 11am the next day.

  • People do this for many reasons. Some people believe it boosts metabolism, helps with blood sugar control, gives the organs a break, and for weight loss.

  • There are conflicting beliefs whether or not these beliefs are true.
