Alli has had a passion for food, nutrition, and fitness since she was a young girl. She took her first health class in fourth grade and fell in love with the science of nutrition chapter. This was back when the four food groups were taught, before the food pyramid, and she strove to eat the correct amounts of each food group each day. That love of science and food influenced her in college and graduate school where she studied nutrition for both degrees. She worked in restaurants, cafés, volunteered for food-based organizations, and read as much about alternative ways of approaching nutrition and food.

She then worked in nutrition research for over eight years at the University of Washington Medical Center, helping conduct feeding studies that addressed a variety of topics, such as omega-3 fatty acids, twin studies, and metabolic syndrome. She was part of the team that developed the recipes and diets for the studies and led the team that made the food for the studies. During this time, she started a food blog and began attending food events around Seattle. She found her people at these events: lovers of food!

About a year after having her food blog, she left nutrition research to work at Allrecipes.com as an editor and nutritionist. She edited recipes, wrote nutrition articles, and provided her expertise on nutrition-related content for the site. She appeared on HSN (Home Shopping Network), promoting the Allrecipes cookware and was also the resident judge on an Allrecipes tv show called Dinner Spinner on the CW.

During her time at Allrecipes, she became certified to teach yoga and taught at a couple of yoga studios around the city. She led clean-eating smoothie challenges at one studio in addition to teaching regular classes.

She left Allrecipes after having her son and worked at home for Mealthy.com doing similar work as a recipe editor, content manager, and nutritionist. She continued to teach yoga and was the Studio Manager and Director of Operations at a local yoga studio. She also appears on a weekly tv show called Relish’d on YouTube, giving 30-minute talks on nutrition topics, such as prebiotics, polyphenols, smoothies, and nightshades.

She wrote a smoothie recipe book called The Smoothie Book that will be available for purchase in the spring of 2021.

She weaves health and wellness into her daily life by cooking homemade meals for her family, teaching regular yoga classes, appearing on the nutrition show, and taking at least one walk a day. Come join Alli on this site to read about health and wellness and pick up a recipe or two.
